Adidas
Adidas offers free 30-day returns on unworn items purchased directly from adidas.com or Adidas stores. During the holiday season (mid-Nov through mid-Jan), the return window extends to 60 days. Customized (mi adidas) products cannot be returned unless defective.
Anthropologie
Anthropologie has a generous extended return policy: full refunds within 30 days with receipt; merchandise credit for unworn, unwashed, unaltered items up to one year. In-store returns are free; mail returns have a $5.95 processing fee. Curated items, Unlimited Furniture Delivery items, and wedding gowns are non-returnable. Price adjustments granted within 14 days on full-price purchases.
Gap
Gap allows returns within 30 days of delivery (online) or purchase (in-store). Online orders can be returned for free by mail or at any Gap store. Final sale items cannot be returned. Gap can often look up purchases via your credit card or account if you lose your receipt.
H&M
H&M offers 30-day returns with free returns both in-store and by mail for online purchases. H&M members get extended return options. Holiday purchases (Nov 1–Dec 25) can be returned through Jan 31. Items must have original tags and be unworn.
lululemon
lululemon offers a strict 30-day return window for unworn, unwashed items with tags still attached. Free return shipping by mail and free in-store returns at any lululemon location. Holiday purchases (Oct 16 – Dec 24) get an extended window to Jan 23. Worn or hemmed items cannot be returned (unless defective).
Marshalls
Marshalls (a TJX company) has the same 30-day return policy as T.J. Maxx. Return unworn items in original condition within 30 days for a full refund. Online orders can be returned to any Marshalls store within 40 days. Holiday purchases (Oct 8–Dec 25) get an extended window through Jan 25. No price match — Marshalls is an off-price retailer.
Nike
Nike offers a generous 60-day return window. Items can be worn and tried — Nike accepts returns as long as products are in acceptable condition. Nike Members get easy returns via the app. Free return shipping on all orders.
Nordstrom
Nordstrom has no formal time limit on returns — one of the most generous policies in fashion retail. They handle returns on a case-by-case basis and generally accept them if the item is in good condition. Free return shipping on all orders.
Old Navy
Old Navy accepts returns within 30 days with free return shipping online or free returns at any Old Navy store. Online orders can be returned in-store (except items marked 'Mail Only'). Old Navy can look up purchases via card or account, so a printed receipt often isn't necessary.
Ross Dress for Less
Ross Dress for Less has a 30-day return policy. Items must be in original condition with the security tag attached. With a receipt: full refund to original payment. Without a receipt and valid ID: store credit at the current selling price (mailed as a voucher if over $50). Ross is in-store only — they have no e-commerce site.
T.J. Maxx
T.J. Maxx offers a 30-day return window for in-store purchases (40 days for online orders returned in-store). Items must be unworn with the original tags. Holiday purchases (Oct 8–Dec 25) get an extended window through Jan 25. Without a receipt, you can still return — you'll receive merchandise credit at the lowest price in the last 10 days. T.J. Maxx is a TJX company (same policy as Marshalls and HomeGoods).
Under Armour
Under Armour offers free 90-day returns on items purchased directly from UA. Returns are accepted online or at Brand House and Factory House stores with proof of purchase. After 90 days, UA reviews requests case-by-case with a commitment to making things right if the request is reasonable.
Urban Outfitters
Urban Outfitters offers 30-day returns with full refunds to original payment. In-store returns are free; mail returns have a $5.00 processing fee. After 30 days, returns receive a UO Gift Card rather than a cash refund. Intimates, swimwear, and pierced jewelry cannot be returned for hygiene reasons.
Zara
Zara offers 30-day returns from the shipment date for online orders (or purchase date for in-store). In-store returns are free at any Zara location. Drop-off/mail returns cost $4.95 deducted from your refund. Items must have original labels and be in unworn condition.
Amazon
Amazon offers 30-day returns for most items sold and shipped by Amazon. Many returns are free with prepaid labels or drop-off at Whole Foods, Kohl's, UPS, or Amazon Hub locations. Third-party seller policies may vary. Some items qualify for returnless refunds.
BJ's Wholesale Club
BJ's Wholesale offers a full year (365 days) to return most items — a generous policy for a warehouse club. Electronics are limited to 90 days. All purchases are tied to your BJ's membership so no receipt is needed. Items should be in saleable condition with original packaging.
Costco
Costco has one of the most generous return policies in retail — no time limit on most items. Electronics are limited to 90 days. Membership itself is 100% refundable at any time. They look up purchases via your membership card, so no receipt is ever needed.
JCPenney
JCPenney accepts returns within 60 days with receipt. Without a receipt (and valid ID), you get a merchandise return voucher at the lowest price in the past 45 days. Online orders can be returned in-store for the fastest refund. Mattresses have a 120-day window; certain housekeeping items only 30 days.
Kohl's
Kohl's gives 90 days for most returns (120 days for Kohl's Card holders). No receipt is needed—purchases can be looked up via your account. Premium electronics and Sephora at Kohl's items are limited to 30 days. Holiday purchases get an extended window through Jan 31.
Macy's
Macy's offers a 30-day return window for most items. Star Rewards members get free return shipping; others pay $9.99. Holiday purchases (Oct 6–Dec 31) can be returned through Jan 31. Final sale and Last Act clearance items are non-returnable. No receipt? Macy's can look up your purchase via card or account; without any proof, store credit is issued.
Sam's Club
Sam's Club has one of the most generous return policies around — most items can be returned at any time with no time limit. Membership is required, and all purchases are tracked under your account so no receipt is ever needed. Electronics and appliances are limited to 90 days; cell phones to 14 days.
Target
Target offers 90-day returns for most items, with 30 days for electronics. RedCard holders get an extra 30 days (120 total). Target-owned brands (Cat & Jack, All in Motion, etc.) get a full 365-day return window.
Walmart
Walmart allows returns within 90 days for most items. Electronics have a 30-day window, and wireless phones only 14 days. No receipt? You can still get store credit. Online purchases can be returned in-store or shipped back free.
Apple
Apple has a strict 14-day return policy for all products. Items must be in original condition with all accessories. Free return shipping or in-store returns at any Apple Store. Opened software and digital purchases are non-returnable.
B&H Photo
B&H Photo accepts returns within 30 days of delivery. Items must be in original condition with all accessories and packaging. Free return shipping with a prepaid label. Holiday purchases (Nov 1 – Jan 1) can be returned through Feb 1. Walk-in returns are accepted at their NYC store.
Best Buy
Best Buy offers a standard 15-day return window. My Best Buy Plus and Total members get 60 days. Activatable devices (phones, tablets) are strictly 14 days. Restocking fees may apply to opened items in certain categories.
Dell
Dell offers a strict 30-day return window from the invoice date. You must initiate the return online at dell.com/orders to get a Credit Return Authorization number before shipping anything back. Enterprise products, customized items, and opened software are non-returnable. Restocking fees may apply.
GameStop
GameStop has a strict 15-day return window for new items (7 days for used items and PC components). Items must be in original, unopened condition for new games. Used games can be returned within 7 days if defective. Opened digital codes and DLC cannot be returned. Holiday purchases typically get an extended window through Jan 15.
Micro Center
Micro Center offers 30-day returns on most products, with a shorter 15-day window for computers, CPUs, motherboards, cameras, and similar high-value items. Phones are non-returnable. No receipt is required if you have a Micro Center Insider Account. Online purchases may be returned in-store.
Newegg
Newegg offers 30-day returns on most items (15 days for opened processors and open-box electronics). All returns require a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number initiated through your account. Return shipping is the customer's responsibility unless the item is defective. Marketplace seller items follow the individual seller's return policy.
Samsung
Samsung allows 30-day returns on most products purchased directly from Samsung.com or the Shop Samsung App — returns from third-party retailers must follow that retailer's policy. Phones have a 15-day trial period; TVs may qualify for a 60-day Buy and Try program. Free return shipping is provided with a prepaid label.
Bath & Body Works
Bath & Body Works has a famous 100% satisfaction guarantee — return any item within 90 days, even if you've used it, with or without a receipt. With a receipt: full refund to original payment. Without a receipt: store credit or exchange. No-receipt returns are capped at $250 per 90-day period. Online orders must be returned to a store or by mail.
Sephora
Sephora's return policy was updated in 2025: you now have 30 days from purchase to return new or gently used products for a full refund. After 30 days, no refunds or store credit are offered (previous policy allowed exchange/store credit up to 60 days). Free return shipping online; free in-store returns at any Sephora location.
Ulta Beauty
Ulta Beauty offers full refunds within 30 days with receipt. Returns made 31–60 days after purchase receive merchandise credit only. After 60 days, items cannot be returned. Ultamate Rewards members can have purchases looked up without a physical receipt. Holiday purchases (Nov 1–Dec 31) can be returned through Jan 31 for a full refund.
Bed Bath & Beyond (Overstock)
Bed Bath & Beyond (now operated by Overstock.com) accepts returns of new and unused items within 30 days of delivery. Return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility and are deducted from the refund. As an online-only retailer, there are no physical stores to return items to. Personalized items are non-returnable.
Home Depot
Home Depot offers 90-day returns for most items. Home Depot credit card holders get a full year (365 days). Major appliances must be inspected within 48 hours of delivery. Plants come with a 1-year guarantee.
IKEA
IKEA offers an exceptionally generous 365-day return window for unopened products with proof of purchase. Opened or assembled items can be returned within 180 days. Returns must be brought to an IKEA store — pickup or free shipping is not offered for returns. IKEA Family members get 90-day price protection on own price drops.
Lowe's
Lowe's offers a standard 90-day return window. Lowe's Advantage Card holders get a full 365 days. Major appliances have a 48-hour inspection window. Plants come with a 1-year guarantee. Without a receipt, you'll receive store credit.
Menards
Menards offers a 90-day return window for most items in original condition with the original receipt. Without a receipt, you receive a Merchandise Credit Check (store credit) at the current selling price. Special order items, cut materials, mixed paint, and hazardous materials cannot be returned. Online orders can be returned to any Menards store.
Pottery Barn
Pottery Barn allows returns within 30 days of receiving an order with the original receipt. Quick Ship upholstery can only be returned within 7 days. Monogrammed, personalized, and Made-to-Order items are non-returnable. Gift registry items have a 90-day return window from event date or purchase date, whichever is later.
Wayfair
Wayfair allows returns within 30 days of delivery for most items in original, undamaged condition. Large furniture must be disassembled and repacked. Return shipping is NOT free — costs are deducted from your refund. Customized items and samples are non-returnable. Online purchases cannot be returned to a physical Wayfair store.
Dick's Sporting Goods
Dick's Sporting Goods offers a 90-day return policy for most items — generous for a sporting goods retailer. Items must be in original condition with tags. Free return shipping for online orders. ScoreCard members can have purchases looked up. Firearms and ammunition are non-returnable.
REI
REI's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee is legendary — REI members get a full year (365 days) to return or exchange any item they're not satisfied with, no questions asked. Outdoor electronics are limited to 90 days. REI Co-op members never need a receipt since purchases are tied to their account.
Office Depot
Office Depot/OfficeMax accepts returns of office supplies within 90 days. Technology, furniture, and software have a 14-day window. Ink and toner must be returned unopened within 30 days. Office Depot brand products can be returned anytime. Free return shipping on online orders; in-store returns available at any location.
Staples
Staples has a tiered return policy: office supplies can be returned anytime, Staples-brand products for a full year, technology within 14 days, and furniture within 14 days. Free online returns for items purchased online. Staples-brand products unsatisfactory for any reason get a full refund within 1 year.
Petco
Petco offers a 30-day return window for most items — if you're not 100% satisfied, bring it back with your receipt. Returns after 30 days may be accepted for store credit up to 60 days at store manager discretion. Live animals can be returned within 30 days. Trader Joe's has one of the most generous return policies in grocery retail — you can return almost anything, at any time, for virtually any reason, with no receipt required. Even partially used or consumed products can be returned. The store manager will typically offer a replacement or full refund on the spot.
Whole Foods Market
Whole Foods Market guarantees 100% customer satisfaction — most products can be returned within 30 days with a receipt for a full refund or exchange. Amazon Prime members can use their account to look up purchases. Whole Foods also accepts Amazon returns at their customer service desks.
